1- Fuji In Early Spring (Lake Motosu). From the series ; Thirty-six Views of Mt. Like the classic shin hanga masters of the day, Tokuriki designed many woodcuts of landscapes and city views in the traditional manner. Yet he actively promoted sosaku-hanga (creative prints) in Kyoto, which emphasized the artists participation in the entire process of printmaking and the exploration of more modern styles and trends. After WWII Tokuriki set up his own publishing company called Matsukyu and began to teach block-carving to artisans and artists, many of them foreigners. He also wrote extensively on the technique of woodblock carving and printing. He traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe and in the 1960s he opened several exhibitions of his works in major U. Cities such as, New York, Chicago, Cleveland and Pittsburgh. I’d rather do nothing but creative prints, but after all, I sell maybe ten of them against two hundred for a publisher-artisan print. The Lavenberg Collection of Japanese Prints. Japanese Woodblock Print Hiroshige Kisokaido (Agematsu) 1830s Early Printing

Brian Page Antiques Brighton Chinese Japanese Antiques & Antiquities. All images on one page – no multiple clicking or pop-ups! Scroll down to view. If you have any questions, please ask. A Rare Japanese Woodblock Print by Hiroshige from Series 69 Stations of the Kisokaido Ca. 14 1/2 x 9 1/2 ins. (36.8 x 24.2 cms) The series is, with the celebrated 53 Stations of the Tokaido, Hiroshige’s master piece. There are 70 designs in the series, 23 of which are by Eisen. The present design is no. The series was published ca. 1835-38 by Hoeido for the first part and Kinjudo for the second part, the present example is by Kinjudo. Details of the series and design can be found on Google. The present example has very good colour, (the red seals are a little faded), and impression and is an early printing. The right and left margins have been trimmed off and replaced. There is a repair adjacent to the right hand edge on the yellow colour and possibly another on the grey ground just above and to the left of the signature. The print has been lightly backed, probably some time ago in Japan as the minor worm track at the bottom left has also gone through the backing. As can clearly be seen on the photographs there is light foxing, particularly on the yellow area to the right and on the margins. There condition problems can be rectified by an expert restorer. Viewing the print against the light does not reveal any other significant repairs. PLEASE NOTE THIS IS AN ORIGINAL PRINTING NOT A FACSIMILE OR REPRINT. PLEASE INSPECT PHOTOS CAREFULLY. PLEASE SCROLL DOWN TO SEE ALL PHOTOGRAPHS. Packing Materials: although we re-use as much packing material as possible, we may make a charge for any new materials used. Any such charge will not be greater than our cost price. Personal cheque (known UK customers). Bank / wire transfer (international customers). If choosing to pay by this method. We guarantee each item to be from the period as described. Our guarantee has no time limit. We do not sell for other dealers, we sell only our own stock. Nowadays many sellers, especially internet sellers, show items for sale not belonging to them, either because they have no actual stock of their own or they are advertising items, often of unknown origin, for clients on a commission basis. Such sellers often have very limited, highly conditional, or non-existent guarantees. With 45 years experience of Asian Art & Antiques with retail premises here in Brighton and a worldwide reputation second to none, we are pleased to offer our customers our guarantee without time limit. A genuine antique is, of course, genuine for all time and not just for seven, fourteen or thirty days and so sellers not offering such a guarantee as ours should possibly be avoided. If you wish to use our pictures and/or text please ask! The item “Japanese Woodblock Print Hiroshige Kisokaido (Agematsu) 1830s Early Printing” is in sale since Monday, March 20, 2017.
