This is a Hiroshi Yoshida woodblock print entitled “BAMBOO WOOD” (1939). It’s part of a group of prints I inherited from my stepmother who brought them back from Japan in the 1950′s. She worked for the U. Army in Japan in the late 40′s and early 50′s. The print bears the Yoshida pencil signature and print title. It also has the Jizuri mark indicating it was self-printed by Yoshida in the 1940′s. It has never been framed and is in good condition. Please be sure view all photos. Army in Tokyo in 1950. It consists of the front and back of a single fragile page. There are photos of those pages attached where you will see “Bamboo GROVE” at number 21 but this was a misnomer/mis-type and it is actually “Bambo Wood”. As far as I can determine there is no “Bamboo Grove” print by Hiroshi Yoshida.

Beautiful old print in decent condition for age and composition. Couple of dirty spots as shown in close ups, really only noticeable upon close inspection. Very pretty color palette and subject, pencil writing at base presumably from the artist, just a really wonderful decorative collectible. Offered at a tremendous value in consideration of aforementioned dirty spots. Please use photos and zoom feature for most accurate condition. Measures about 25.75″ by about 20.25″. The Takako Umeno Japanese Wood Block Print – Persimmon-2 is an original work featuring intricate designs and vibrant colors. Originating from Japan, this late 20th Century creation by artist Takako Umeno, partner of Haku Maki showcases traditional craftsmanship. The work captures the essence of Japanese artistry and aesthetics, with a red persimmon fruit, dark green leaves on a metallic gold background. The print features the artist’s seal in red on the gold background, the number of the series (93 / 203), the name of the print in Japanese script and the artist name on the bottom of the mat. Takako Umeno was a woodblock print artist active during late 20th century. Little is known about her life and career. A sosaku hanga (“creative print”) artist in 1954 and became his primary assistant in his studio. The print measures 4″ by 4″, the mat is 4 3/4″ by 5 1/4″ and the silver tone frame is 8 1/2″ by 10 3/4″. There is slight paint loss in one section of the frame.
