
FRAMED SIZE: 15 3/4″x20 3/4″. Hiroshi Yoshida was a leading artist of the shin-hanga (“new prints”) movement, known for blending traditional Japanese ukiyo-e with Western painting techniques. The print depicts the Omotemon or Niomon (Nio gate) at the entrance to the Toshogu Shrine in Nikko, Japan. The original print was created in 1937. Yoshida was known for overseeing every step of the woodblock printing process himself, from designing the print to carving the blocks and printing the work.
