The piece is in great overall condition with minor signs of wear consistent with its age and use (scattered light wear to paper; some light staining to matting). EARLY JAPANESE Woodblock GEISHA Print-Well Signed and Framed-NR

For sale is a framed early Japanese block print of a woman, perhaps a geisha, well signed, as is. The framed picture is 15 inches wide by 19 3/4 inches tall; the print itself is 10 3/8 inches by 15 ½ inches. The print is in faded light blue and black. It depicts a full-length figure of a woman with seal marks, signatures and inscriptions as shown. The print paper sits on top of a textured mat. The frame is metallic painted wood with a glass front and metallic marbled paper backing and a hanging wire. Condition on the picture is as found. The print is definitely faded, but it may be very old. There are are pin holes at the corners, as well as some discoloration, mainly in the upper left corner. The frame is in nice shape, with intact backing paper. A fine antique print! This item is in the category “Antiques\Asian Antiques\Japan\Prints”. Size: 15 1/4 x 8 -1/4. Early Sakai/Kawaguchi Edition, with red numbered stamp on reverse. Hasui’s collaboration with publishers other than Watanabe such as Sakai and Kawaguchi occured from 1929 to 1932. It has often been speculated that the principal reason for Hasui’s association with other publishers seem to have been economic.
