Well kept in Japanese handcrafted wooden frame with Japanese inscription photo no. 7 at the back of wood made specifically for the the artwork. Japanese Inscriptions at the left side when translated includes the “Ministry of Tsuki Women of Utamaro”. 1753 – 31 October 1806 was a Japanese artist. He is one of the most highly regarded designers of ukiyo-e woodblock prints and paintings, and is best known for his bijin okubi-e “large-headed pictures of beautiful women” of the 1790s. He also produced nature studies, particularly illustrated books of insects. Utamaro Kitagawa was born in 1753 in Edo (today Tokyo) and died in 1806. He is considered the leading Japanese printmaker and painter of bijin. His original name was Ichitaro Kitagawa. Utamaro started his career as a student of the master painter Toriyama Sekien. Utamaro’s early known art works are ukiyo-e prints for the kabuki theater published under the name of Utagawa Toyoaki. Great condition, colors are well kept and vivid, no tears nor breaks.
