This listing is for the original Japanese woodblock print that you see in the photos. One source of information tells me that the title is “Kiyomizu Temple in Kyoto” from the Tokaido Road series that is also known as: “Pagoda in Snow, ” or Snowy Forest. It is signed in pencil. The frame measures close to 26 ¾ by 21 ½ inches. The area of the print paper exposed by the frame measures close to 19 ¼ by 13 ¾ inches. The area of the image measures close to 12 5/8 by 17 7/8 inches. The framed print weighs close to 6 pounds 2 ounces. The print is behind glass so you might see some reflections. The condition is much like you see it in the photos. As far as I can see, the print is in excellent condition with no damage. There are some rolling distortions of the paper across the top of the paper exposed by the mat. I have provided a photo of them where they are maximally apparent because I have them angled to a light. Otherwise, they are not particularly noticeable. There is a minor scrape on the frame that I have provided a close-up of. The paper backing on the frame is damaged some. Otherwise, print and frame are fine and as shown. My photos should give you a good idea of their general condition. I guarantee this print to be as described and represented by the 11 photos after the general description. The photos are part of the description. Please look at all of them. Please know that the lighting in my photos is uneven and that there might be shadows or reflections. The colors on my monitor look close to but not exactly like the actual colors. Different monitors may show different colors. I often say that an item measures or weighs “close to” because in my opinion no measurements are exact and some things are difficult to measure. Often, I have a double wall box custom made for larger items and that might result in a short delay. When I use packing peanuts, they are usually biodegradable. Sometimes, I use used boxes. 11 photos should load with this listing. This item is in the category “Antiques\Asian Antiques\Japan\Prints”. Tsuchiya Koitsu was an ukiyo-e artist and printmaker active from the Meiji to Showa periods. He produced works in a style of pictorial expression known as koranga (ray painting) used by his master Kobayashi Kiyochika, as well as nihonga (hand paintings) and shinpanga (new woodblock prints). There always might be slight color variation from the Original to the colors you see on the photo’s. The history of woodblock prints dates back to the Heian period. The production of woodblock prints is based on the complete division of labor. In “traditional woodblock prints, ” which have been handed down since ancient times, the processes of “underpainting, ” “engraving, ” and “printing” are carried out by top-class craftsmen who have mastered the secrets of each process. Only when each of these skilled craftsmen work in unison with the other three can a work of art with a high degree of perfection be created. Painter IDO MASAO acts as a painter in the production of woodblock prints. The painter refers to the artist. He determines all aspects of the work, from composition to depiction and color. The “engraver” carves the woodblocks based on the rough sketch. The “printer” mixes the pigments and repeatedly prints them on the paper. The work is finally completed after a rigorous examination of color and print quality. Although woodblock prints are always tense and time-consuming, they boast a unique artistic quality that cannot be experienced anywhere else. Unlike printed matter, woodblock prints are produced in limited quantities and are not available in unlimited supply. This is because the quality of the woodblocks deteriorates with each printing, and the woodblocks are eventually disposed of. IDO was a rare giant who carried on the culture of traditional woodblock prints. It is with great regret that he passed away. We hope that you will acquire his works while they are still available, as there will be limited opportunities to distribute his works in the future. He said of his own work: I’ve had people tell me they like the colors of my work indescribably well. Among them, they say that the green is particularly striking. One time, a foreigner described it as IDO GREEN. ” He had been fascinated by the beauty of Kyoto and has devoted his life to painting with the desire to “pass on the irreplaceable beauty of Japan and the traditional art of woodblock prints to the next generation. We will carefully deliver using the packing material. We will do our best to match your asking price. Thank you for reading to the end. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions ^ ^.
