Toshi Yoshida Woodblock Pagoda in Kyoto

Toshi Yoshida Woodblock Pagoda in Kyoto

This design was originally published in 1942 by the Yoshida Hanga Studio. We are offering a posthumously printed image, made from the original blocks, and acquired directly from the Yoshida family. While it is signed in the block, it still looks like it is pencil signed to an untrained eye. To avoid any misunderstanding, the Yoshida Hanga Studio also included the seal of the printer on the reverse. The image measures 9 1/2 x 6 3/4 inches, plus full margins. The condition is excellent. Up until his father passed away in 1950, Toshi Yoshida primarily produced works that were reminiscent of his father’s landscape prints. His later works include a wide assortment of subjects, styles and techniques. Don’t settle for a giclee or other mechanical reproduction. These woodblock prints are made using the same printing process as the original pencil signed run, under the supervision of the artist’s family and meeting their exacting standards. This item is in the category “Antiques\Asian Antiques\Japan\Prints”. The seller is “floatingworldgallery” and is located in this country: US. This item can be shipped to United States.

This listing is for the original Japanese woodblock print that you see in the photos. One source of information tells me that the title is “Kiyomizu Temple in Kyoto” from the Tokaido Road series that is also known as: “Pagoda in Snow, ” or Snowy Forest. It is signed in pencil. The frame measures close to 26 ¾ by 21 ½ inches. The area of the print paper exposed by the frame measures close to 19 ¼ by 13 ¾ inches. The area of the image measures close to 12 5/8 by 17 7/8 inches. The framed print weighs close to 6 pounds 2 ounces. The print is behind glass so you might see some reflections. The condition is much like you see it in the photos. As far as I can see, the print is in excellent condition with no damage. There are some rolling distortions of the paper across the top of the paper exposed by the mat. I have provided a photo of them where they are maximally apparent because I have them angled to a light. Otherwise, they are not particularly noticeable. There is a minor scrape on the frame that I have provided a close-up of. The paper backing on the frame is damaged some. Otherwise, print and frame are fine and as shown. My photos should give you a good idea of their general condition. I guarantee this print to be as described and represented by the 11 photos after the general description. The photos are part of the description. Please look at all of them. Please know that the lighting in my photos is uneven and that there might be shadows or reflections. The colors on my monitor look close to but not exactly like the actual colors. Different monitors may show different colors. I often say that an item measures or weighs “close to” because in my opinion no measurements are exact and some things are difficult to measure. Often, I have a double wall box custom made for larger items and that might result in a short delay. When I use packing peanuts, they are usually biodegradable. Sometimes, I use used boxes. 11 photos should load with this listing. This item is in the category “Antiques\Asian Antiques\Japan\Prints”. Spring Snow Kyoto Maruyama. Please check the photo. Title / Spring Snow, Maruyama, Kyoto. Dimensions / 43 x 28.5 cm. Printed in 1935, Doi print edition. Tsuchiya Koitsu was an ukiyo-e artist and printmaker active from the Meiji to Showa periods. He produced works in a style of pictorial expression known as koranga (ray painting) used by his master Kobayashi Kiyochika, as well as nihonga (hand paintings) and shinpanga (new woodblock prints). Although he lived and studied painting at Kobayashi Kiyochika’s house for many years, he did not produce many works because he had to do a lot of housework and chores in place of his master. However, he is known as a popular artist for his elegant use of color and delicate expression, which he inherited from his master. International Buyers – Please Note.
