There always might be slight color variation from the Original to the colors you see on the photo’s. The history of woodblock prints dates back to the Heian period. The production of woodblock prints is based on the complete division of labor. In “traditional woodblock prints, ” which have been handed down since ancient times, the processes of “underpainting, ” “engraving, ” and “printing” are carried out by top-class craftsmen who have mastered the secrets of each process. Only when each of these skilled craftsmen work in unison with the other three can a work of art with a high degree of perfection be created. Painter IDO MASAO acts as a painter in the production of woodblock prints. The painter refers to the artist. He determines all aspects of the work, from composition to depiction and color. The “engraver” carves the woodblocks based on the rough sketch. The “printer” mixes the pigments and repeatedly prints them on the paper. The work is finally completed after a rigorous examination of color and print quality. Although woodblock prints are always tense and time-consuming, they boast a unique artistic quality that cannot be experienced anywhere else. Unlike printed matter, woodblock prints are produced in limited quantities and are not available in unlimited supply. This is because the quality of the woodblocks deteriorates with each printing, and the woodblocks are eventually disposed of. IDO was a rare giant who carried on the culture of traditional woodblock prints. It is with great regret that he passed away. We hope that you will acquire his works while they are still available, as there will be limited opportunities to distribute his works in the future. He said of his own work: I’ve had people tell me they like the colors of my work indescribably well. Among them, they say that the green is particularly striking. One time, a foreigner described it as IDO GREEN. ” He had been fascinated by the beauty of Kyoto and has devoted his life to painting with the desire to “pass on the irreplaceable beauty of Japan and the traditional art of woodblock prints to the next generation. We will carefully deliver using the packing material. We will do our best to match your asking price. Thank you for reading to the end. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions ^ ^. Again-the prints themselves are all original, beautiful and in wonderful condition, free from any water spots, tears, creases or any damage whatsoever. They are truly lovely! Each print (not including mat) measures 10.25 x 11.5 inches; and 13.25 x 15 inches including mat. The portfolio/case measures 13.75 x 15.5 inches. Kyoto had been the capital of Japan and Mikados’ seats for more than twelve long centuries and, naturally enough, she is rich in colourful and sometimes even sad histories, legends, traditions and romances. To the students of the history of Japan, Kyoto is indeed a place of extreme interests and fascinations. “TWELVE MONTHS OF KYOTO” represents the ancient capital’s twelve well known places, the seasonal beauties of which are so characteristically famous. January: Snow scene at Byodoin Temple at Uji. February: The annual festival of the Fushimi Inari. March: Plum blossoms at the Kitano Shrine. April: Arashiyama Park, a famous scenic resort. May: The pagoda of Yasaka near Gion. June: Rainy scene of the “Sen-ke, ” Japanese tea ceremony founder’s house. July: Gorgeous procession of “Yama-hoko” or the floats at the Gion Festival. August: The Bonfire festival of the Daimonji Hill viewed from the Sanjo Bridge. September: The old Imperial Palace. October: The full-moon night at the gate of the Chionin Monastery. November The Willow tree at the gate of the Shimabara. December Snow scene at the Golden Pavillion. Engraved and Printed by UCHIDA WOODBLOCK PRINTING CO. Vintage Signed Toshi Yoshida Japanese Woodblock Print PAGODA IN KYOTO Framed

Toshi Yoshida Japanese Woodblock Print Framed! Titled: Pagoda in Kyoto. Signed: Toshi Yoshida pencil-signed? A vintage Toshi Yoshida Japanese woodblock print. A warm sunset scene with cool colors featuring a traditional pagoda with an ancient willow tree beautifully reflected in the pond in the foreground. Gathered from the internet. T oshi Yoshida was born in Tokyo in 1911 and lived until 1995. Was a Japanese printmaking. Artist associated with the sosaku-hanga. Movement, and the son of renowned shin-hanga. Toshi Yoshida prints are in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, The Art Institute of Chicago, the British Museum in London and other international museum collections. I believe this to be a “lifetime edition print” with an original pencil-signed signature. This is based on the lack of a visible imprint. When viewed on an angle in the light. From that you would see from a blocked-signed signature post-death, and the shiny look of the graphite pencil lead from the signature when viewed in the same way. However, note that I have no deep knowledge of Japanese woodblock print age and signature verification and do not claim to be an expert in this area. The print was professionally framed. Kabutoya Galleries label with artist, title and medium listed on back (see photos). Vintage framing shop label on back (see photos). Double matting, with outer matte lavender in color and inner black border. Silver frame with a brushed effect on the sides (frame is easily removable, see photos). Woodblock print has good colors, and clear artist marks, title and signature. Note the print itself is fixed (glued) to the matte backing and front, and is therefore sandwiched between the matte front and back. On very close inspection, there are visible bubbled areas on some of the edges where the print is raised from this process (see the last few close-up photos). Frame is in very good condition, however there is a crack to the glass (reflective glass) in the right, bottom corner, which should be replaced. (Please read the condition description carefully and enlarge and view photos as part of the condition description, since the print is not returnable). Framed this measures 13 inches x 16 inches. Full print itself measures 8 inches x 10-1/2 inches. Matting border measure 1-3/4 inches. Please note, I have no deep knowledge of Japanese woodblock prints, and the information I’ve provided above comes from internet research and the labels on the back of the framed print. From a smoke-free and pet-free home. Please ask any questions. The item “Vintage Signed Toshi Yoshida Japanese Woodblock Print PAGODA IN KYOTO Framed” is in sale since Tuesday, November 30, 2021.
