Size: 18 x 11 -3/4 (Full sized margins). Print has been properly stored flat in a print folio for the past 30 years – from a recent family estate. Condition: Fine, with full margins. Dated and signed middle right: “Showa 4″ (1929), followed by the circular artist’s seal reading: “Kotondo”. Embossed title in the lower margin reads “Ame” (Rain). Seal in lower left of joint publishers Sakai and Kawaguchi. Blocks carved by Ito and printed by Komatsu Wasakichi. “Made in Japan”, stamped on the reverse. Japanese woodblock landscape print, Hiroshige I, “Ohashi Bridge at Atake, in Summer Shower, ” from the series “100 Famous Views of Edo, ” 1857. Image: 10″ high by 7.25″ wide, With frame: 17″ X 13.5″. He is particularly known for his scenes featuring snow and rain, which feature in many of his best and most famous images, and which has led to his becoming know as “the artist of rain, snow and mist”. I have compared it to one seen at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. Shown in he last photo from MET site. I have not taken out of frame.
