I appreciate your courtesy! The condition is described above for more information please check the photos. Visible Print 14 inches x 9 inches. Frame 19 ¾ inches x 14 ¾ inches. More about the artist. He was born in Osaka as the son of Sadanobu II. He was the pupil of Shijo painter Ueda Kocho, and later became a pupil of Utagawa Sadamasu, becoming a member of the Osaka school. Most of the woodblock prints by Sadanobu Hasegawa III were made after World War II. Sadanobu Hasegawa III also had a son who followed in the family tradition and was active until the 1980s. Sadanobu Hasegawa III worked to adapt the art of Japanese printmaking to the 20th century. Most of his work was commissioned by the Uchida company in Kyoto, one of the largest publishers of woodblock prints in Japan at the time. His woodblock making technique followed the old Japanese tradition of hand making all of the blocks. He did add some more modern features to some of his prints like embossing of metal pigments. Sadanobu Hasegawa III adopted a style which was a combination of old ukiyo-e traditions, with a modern approach. His subjects included the traditional focuses of ukiyo-e tradition such as kabuki theater, the bunraku puppet theater, beautiful girls from Kyoto, as well as scenes and events from Japan’s medieval history and legends. His work primarily catered to the foreign market, and his selections of colors and subjects almost portrayed a Disneyland image of Japan. Even with the more modern approach, he always kept his foundation rooted in the traditional techniques, while focusing on good artisan work. More pictures are available!!! KITAGAWA TSUKIMARO. Original Japanese Woodblock Print. A Courtesan & her Maiko

Granted to your attention amazing original woodblock print COURTESAN AND HER MAIKO by great artist KITAGAWA TSUKIMARO in 1806. He was painter and print artist, Kitagawa Utamaro’s best pupil. He began designing prints of beautiful women using the name Kikumaro. From 1804 changed his name to Tsukimaro. 1820 ceased to design prints, painting instead hanging scrolls of beauties in a style influenced by the Maruyama-Shijo school, which he signed’Kansetsu’. His last dated work is an illustration for a’kyoka’ anthology published in 1836. Full large oban size (15 1/4 X 10 1/2) untrimmed, unframed. This print printed in “aizuri-e”, the colors are great. The term aizuri-e (Japanese: “blue printed picture”) usually refers to Japanese woodblock prints that are printed entirely in blue. This print is in very good condition, reinforced by professional restorer using thin japanese washi paper on the back because of old age. Depicting two Beauties, one is cortesan and another one her attendant. The portraiture of these two beauties is excellent and created in great traditional style of Tsukimaro’s teacher Kitagawa Utamaro. The item “KITAGAWA TSUKIMARO. Original Japanese Woodblock Print. This image is, in my view, the best from that series. The color woodblock measures 15 1/2 inches by 10 1/4 inches (image size), and is printed on a full sheet measuring a total of 16 3/4 inches by 11 1/4 inches. The print is signed in pencil by Saito at the left of the image, where there is also a red chop mark. The print is not laid down, and the image retains its fresh and vivid colors. The only condition issues I can find are a tiny 1/8 inch tear at the left margin (not entering the image) and some paper residue (from an earlier matting) around the edges of the sheet, where the mat was glued down. The mat residue just enters into the edges of the image in several places, mostly at the bottom (see photos 10 and 11).
