It is an old spring painting. I think it’s from the Meiji era or the Taisho era from the male hairstyle. The Meiji and Taisho eras are important times when Japan turns into a modern state. So men’s hairstyles are modern, but women still have remnants of the Edo period. I think that it is a wonderful print that shows the transition of Japanese history. Although there are things that are a little chipped due to aging, the color is still beautiful overall and the state is good. Size is about 12.2cm in height and about 17.7cm in width. The expression and angle are good, and the colors and patterns are very beautiful. It is precious as a work of art in Japan, and it is precious to know the sex culture at that time. Above all, it is very rare that sexual acts between women are depicted. In the past, Japanese samurai had many sexual acts between men, so there are some shunga that depict sexual acts between men, but shunga in which women have sexual acts are very rare. The condition is very good. Although there are some stains and cuts due to aging, the paper is also solid and kept in a very good condition. We ships from Japan This product. MASAMI TERAOKA // Sarah and Octopus Shunga // Original Modern Woodblock Print. 76/200 by Masami Teraoka, 2001. 29-color woodblock made from hand-carved blocks of cherry wood, printed on Hosho paper. Print: 10-3/8 x 15-3/4 inches / 26.4 x 40 centimeters. Matted in acid-free, archival sleeve: 16 x 20 inches / 40.1 x 50.8 centimeters. Masami Teraoka was born in Onomichi, Japan in 1936. In 1954-55 he attended Kwansei Gakuin University in Kobe, Japan where he earned a B. When he was 25 he came to America, and attended the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles (1964-68) where he received both B. Masami was influenced by both Ukiyo-e artists of Edo, Japan and American Pop artists of the 1960′s. In his work he tries to express his feelings about these two diverse cultures. The people and props that he uses are symbols of both the contemporary life he experiences and the venerable Japanese traditions he admires. He looks at his paintings as Kabuki plays: He is the director and he has to be careful casting each actress and actor because the strength of each work depends on how he scripts, draws, and paints each one. He calls his work Masami-za, or Masami-theater. Your order will be dispatched as soon as possible! If you need it to be sent by a certain day, please let us know.
