Title: magome no tuki/ Full moon at Magome. Size: 12 cm× 19cm small size! Kawase Hasui, whose name is Kawase Bunjiro, was born at Shiba, Tokyo. Kanagaki Robun, a noted playwright of early Meiji period was his uncle. From childhood he loved to paint; later he became a pupil of Kaburkai Kiyokata. And in the spring of 1912 exhibited a picture in the Tatumi Exhibition of Painting. During the early stages of his art career, Hasui produced only paintings; he became. Interested in woodblock prints after seeing Shinsui’s prints “Eight sight of Omi”. Which were shown at the exhibition of the Kyodokai sponsored by Kiyokata’s school. Some of Hasui’s small landscape pictures led Shozaburou Watanabe to see his possibilities. Hasui then did his first color prints from a series of sketches made at Shiobara in 1918. Up for your consideration is a rare Japanese Wood Block Print, ” Late Autumn at Ichikawa”, by Kawase Hasui. I inherited an Antique Store a number of years ago and this piece along with several other very nice Wood Block Originals were in the back of the store. I did a lot of research and found that this was made in the 1930′s. Kawase Hasui was a master at wood blocks. I could not find this particular Wood Block for sale on any site. It was in museums and personal collections. This Print is an original it bears all the correct signatures and seals. It measures 15 1/4″ in length and is 10 1/2″ wide. It is in good condition with no rips or tears. But I believe it is faded. I have taken time to do good pictures, please take time to look at them for any unlisted damage. They are part of the description. This is a wonderful Wood Block by a Master Artist. It would be great in any collection.
