PAIR VNT Framed HIROSHIGE ANDO Japanese Woodblock Prints, FAMOUS PLACES IN KYOTO
Author: adminOct 15
Prints are in Very Good Condition, the white matting has a lovely subtle sheen to it and is very delicate and thin – rice paper? I’m not sure but there is some slight “rippling” of this matting material – it’s NOT water damage though – please see the photos. For more details on that – maybe just age, gravity and humidity over time. Frames are solid and are black metal and have some minor scuffing and scratches on each one – again, please see photos for. More details – as I said, frames are solid as are all the corners and the backing of each – some black touch-up paint for metal should make them disappear. Frames measure 18.25″ wide and 13.25″ height. Visible portions of prints measure 13.25″ wide and 8″ height. Colors of both Woodblock Prints are Vibrant and Consistent – no foxing or water damage no creases or tears.

Clifton KARHU Woodblock print Gion kyoto ED81/100 wood cut with flame signed
Author: adminJul 4
Clifton KARHU has lived in Japan since 1955 and continues to paint landscapes and buildings. (mainly townhouses and teahouses). His graceful, magnificent, and unique works have many fans both in Japan. The woodblock prints are called’creative prints’, and are characterized by the fact that all the steps of woodblock printing,’sketch’,’carving’ and’rubbing’ are done by one person. The color changes each time depending on how the woodblocks are layered, so it is not a printmaking process where many of the same prints are made. In addition, since the woodblock is destroyed by itself at the end, it cannot be scratched again in the future, so it has a scarcity value. There are also many fans who want his “ink painting” and “Kutani ware”. Passed away in 2007 at the age of 80. Dates may not be accurate. The work is in good condition. There is burnt on the margins around the work and on the whole. I don’t see any fatal damage. Damage to the glass will not be covered. Please understand in advance. All are shown in the images.
