Each print was designed by a different artist and is a character. In a Chikamatsu play. The shading on Osan’s forehead is part of the character and is not a defect. This is a 19th Century woodblock print by Toyohara Chikanobu from his Kabuki theatre series – circa 1879 – 1881. This is two panels of what we believe was a triptych of a kabuki theatre scene – great subject matter. Great, vibrant colors to this piece. The pieces together measure 18 1/2″ x 14 1/4″.
