Hasui Kawase, a student of Kiyokata, was influenced by Shinsui’s “Eight Views of Omi” and turned to printmaking. Hasui was active as a leading artist of new prints and produced more than 600 works in his 40 years of painting. The blue color called “Hasui Blue” is Hasui’s characteristic color, and the various blues expressing water and air have attracted not only Japanese but also many foreigners, including Steve Jobs. The Shinbashi Bridge is located in Nikko, Tochigi Prefecture, and is a beautiful bridge with vermilion paint that is suitable for decorating the front entrance of Nikko. Description: A Japanese woodblock print by Hokusai Katsushika from the series entitled Thirty-six views of Mt. This work is entitled Ommayagashi in Twilight over Ryogoku Bridge Mt. Fuji in the distance. The print depicts a group of figures in a boat in the sea near the famous Ryogoku bridge with the majestic Mt. This is a very good late 19 th/early 20th Century impression in the artist’s characteristic style. Condition: Based on the photographs provided by the client, the piece is in excellent condition consistent with age and wear. Dimensions (in inches): 9 x 6 inches. Expert Evaluation of Your Object. The Japanese landscape in the background shows multiple roofs of a village only just visible over the tree line. The fisherman is standing on the bank of a river under an arched bridge in a suit of grass and hat to help protect himself from the falling rain. This work is signed in the low left corner and dates to the early to mid 20th century. The condition of the woodblock is excellent with good original coloring measuring 7 x 9 3/4 inches while its original wood frame measures 10 3/8 x 15 1/2 inches.
