Up for sale is a beautiful woodblock by the talented Japanese printmaker Tsuchiya Koitsu entitled “Twilight in Imamiya Street, Choshi”. Dating from the early 20th century this print depicts a street scene with the sun setting on the horizon casting an orange hue through the sky. Multiple figures are seen walking down the road of window lit homes and while this is a traditional scene we are reminded of modern times as power lines are visible over head. This unframed print measures with its full margins 10 1/4 x 15 1/2 inches and is signed low right. The print while visually attractive does show discoloration, tape marks in each corner and heavy wrinkling which can be seen in the last photo cast under raking light. While the last image looks severe the print actually shows quite well especially when framed.
