The artist name is Tsuchiya Koitsu and measures 16 1/2″ X 11 1/2″ large Oban. The print depicts The blooming Wisteria And Half Moon Bridge At Tanmangu shrine in Komeido in the rain. The overall condition of the print is good considering it’s age. However please note the slight fraying on one edge of the print. Their is also some old mounting tape residue on the under side on all four corners. This does not appear to be a reproduction as indicated by the aged coloration of the borders. This is an original Japanese mid-Showa Era c. 1950′s guaranteed original. (wood block print) titled Ame no Miyajima (“Miyajima in the rain”) by artist Tsuchiya Koitsu (1870 -1949). The artist’s seal and signature is present in the bottom left corner of the image (see picture 4). While the date on the right margin states “July of Showa 16th” (1940) the publisher. Doi’s “E Seal” is present in the left margin using Harada as the carver would. Indicate a printing date in the 1950′s. The print is “oban” sized and measures roughly 16 1/2″ x 11 1/4″ (42 / 32 cm) including the margins. In very fine condition with deep rich colors. There are remnants of tape on the reverse top from previous mounting (see picture 6). Otherwise this guaranteed original print remains in excellent condition. The print depicts a view of Miyajima island’s shinto shrine and its famous floating tori gate. This is one of Koitsu’s most famous prints. Vintage Tsuchiya Koitsu Japanese Woodblock Print Description and Item Information Up for sale is this vintage woodblock print on paper by the well-known Japanese artist, Tsuchiya Koitsu. Please excuse any glare in the photos. Depicted in this nocturnal scene is a calm, rainy evening in the city. The print is not matted or framed. The image area measures approximately 15 3/8 inches by 10 1/8 inches. The paper measures approximately 16 5/8 inches by 11 1/4 inches. This would be a beautiful addition to a collection of Japanese works of art on paper. It is called, Evening at Ushigome. The artist was known for his works in the shin-hanga style. The exact age of this vintage print is not known. The markings to the margins and to the lower right of the image area are as shown. Verso, there is a label affixed from Ace Art Shop in Tokyo (see Photo 9). Condition This unframed print looks good overall, as shown. There is minor rippling or slight creasing to the paper. There is slightly sticky tape residue to the right and left margins in several areas (see examples in photos). The top edge has a crease along it, about 1/8 inch from the paper’s rag edge (see Photo 9). Terms of Sale 1.
