All Time Hero Selection, The Late Honda Tadakatsu & Kat Kiyomasa. Toyohara Kunichika (1835 – 1900). Publisher Stamp of 1882 / Meiji Period. Ink on Washi Paper. A stunning pair of Japanese Ukiyo-e Woodblock Oban Diptych prints by renowned master artist Toyohara Kunichika. One print features the late Samurai General, Honda Tadakatsu. The second prints subject is Edo period daimy, Kat Kiyomasa. Famous for commanding the Imjin War against Korea, capturing Seoul, Busan and many other cities. Depicted in this print with the spear he used to hunt Tigers. Published by Mintaro Ozaki this is a genuine original 19. In excellent overall condition. Very clean with only light wear commensurate with age and adding to authenticity. Both have been expertly preserved, colours are all clear and vivid. One small area of paper missing to the top left corner of the second print which will not be visible once the prints have been framed and mounted. FOR YOU CONSIDERATION AN ORIGINAL ANTIQUE JAPANESE UKIYO-E WOODBLOCK TRIPTYCH PRINT BY TOYOHARA KUNICHIKA (18351900) KABUKI PLAY SCENE. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY RARE PIECE , VERY HARD TO FIND IN EXCELLENT CONDITION FOR THE AGE. L eft panel above printmaker signature the title of the play ,’Toeizan Nofu no Negaisho. Left of the signature dated and printing location of the work, Ichimura-za Theatre in July, 1884. Left long cartouche escene name’Sakura Sogo Jikiso no Ba’ (the’Sakura Sogo making a direct petition’ scene). Middle and right panels names of the 3 corresponding actors and their character in the play. Ichikawa Danjuro IX as Sakura Sogo, Iwai Matsunosuke IV as Fuji no Kata, and Kataoka Gado III as Lord Higashiyama Yoshimasa. Hand crafted paper , show obvious paper fibres. Yakusha-e Print of Kabuki actors. Nishiki-e , multiple colors with brighter pigment present on blue clothes and gray areas , please check last pictures , tiny white points are brightness on it. Oban , each sheet measure 14″ x 9 1/2″. Meiji 17, 6th month (June, 1884). THE PIECE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION FOR THE AGE , THE SHEETS WERE ATTACHED TOGETHER WITH JAPANESE PAPER.
