Print has been properly stored flat in a print folio for the past 30 years – from a recent family estate. Condition: Fine, with no condition issues. Dated and signed middle right: “Showa 4″ (1929), followed by the circular artist’s seal reading: “Kotondo”. Embossed title in the lower margin reads “Ame” (Rain). Seal in lower left of joint publishers Sakai and Kawaguchi. Blocks carved by Ito and printed by Komatsu Wasakichi. “Made in Japan”, stamped on the reverse. Rare Kawase Hasui Japanese Woodblock Print Rain in Nara

A beautiful Japanese woodblock print by Kawase Hasui titled “Rain in Nara, the Kofuku Pagoda”. The print bears the artist’s seal and signature in the bottom right corner of the image. The print is “oban” sized and measures roughly 10 1/2″ x 15 1/2″ including the margins. It is in excellent condition with light fading to the colors, pin holes in the left margin as a result of the drying process (original to the print), and some light thinning to the top margin on the reverse from previous mounting.
