Huge 1970 Modernist Japanese Woodblock Print Poem 70-11 by Haku Maki 52/155
Author: adminDec 10
Maki is the assumed name of Maejima Taadaki. Maki studied under the famous printmaker Onchi, and quickly became acclaimed for his embossed prints, dealing with a range of subjects, particularly those of kanji (Chinese characters). This print is from 1970, and is entitled Poem 70-11. I love the intaglio detail. As noted below, it does have some noticeable condition issues, but the foxing is not very distinct unless viewed up close. I’m not sure if the print can be removed from the matting, and haven’t attempted to do so. It should look great when properly framed and displayed. It’s a rare and exquisite large-form version of Maki’s printwork. Print has numerous instances of foxing throughout the intaglio portion. Matting is slightly frayed on left side. Backing board has some waviness. Measurements: Print measures approximately 23 inches high x 16 inches wide (sight). Backing board measures approximately 29.25 inches high x 22.25 inches wide. If the item is not paid for within this time frame, an unpaid item case will be opened. More pictures available on request.
