Up for consideration is “TOKURIKI TOMIKICHIRO WOOD BLOCK PRINT NARA AT NIGHT SARUSAWA POND”. Featuring a beautiful woodblock print, framed, matted, clear glass and classic style. Piece is signed lower left. Frame measures 20 1/4 inches wide, 15 inches tall and 3/4 of an inch thick. Print viewable are is 14 1/2 inches wide and 10 inches tall (all measurements are approximate). Good used condition, ready to hang and enjoy. NOTE: Frame and matting not in the best condition but are useable. A great addition to your Art collection. Formal Name: Rakuzan kacho-gafu. Night Heron on Bamboo. Feature: Japanese Woodblock Print, Bird. Contents: First edition made by Rakuzan. Year of publication: 1929. Light foxing in the margins. Rakuzan was born in Kyoto. When he was young, he studied under Takeuchi Seiho, a pioneer of modern Japanese painting and a representative painter of Kyoto painting. The woodblock prints of Rakuzan have been reprinted using the same woodblock prints in recent years, but this print is a valuable first edition. This item is not new. ANTIQUE JAPAPANESE WOODBLOCK PRINT “RAINY NIGHT AT KUDAN” by KOBAYASHI KIYOCHIKA. 10 September 1847 – 28 November 1915 was a Japanese ukiyo-e. Artist, best known for his color woodblock prints. His work documents the rapid modernization and Westernization Japan underwent during the Meiji Period. Inspired by Western art techniques. His work first found an audience in the 1870s with prints of red-brick buildings and trains that had proliferated after the Meiji Restoration. His prints of the First Sino-Japanese War. Kyosai Hyakki Gadan’Pictures of One Hundred Demons. Sometimes translated as’Night Parade of One Hundred Demons’, this Japanese orihon is a feast for the eyes. First published in 1890 (the year after Kyosai’s death), and in a second edition in 1895. Both editions are very scarce, especially so in good condition. When these appear at market, they are usually part of a complete series still in the orihon style of codex-with an accordion-folded structure. See my store for additional prints from the series. Center crease from original publication barely visible. The print has been mounted on a sheet of japan paper, adhered at either edge. In excellent condition with good colors, especially for age. Sheet: 7 1/2 x 9 1/4 inches.
