Japanese Woodblock Prints Tomikichiro Tokuriki Twelve Months of Kyoto Complete

Finding an original complete set of all 12 prints, in such wonderful condition, is rare. All 12 prints are in EXCELLENT condition! The green outer portfolio case does show wear and was reinforced with clear tape by the previous owner. Each woodblock print is bordered by a paper mat, some of which have creases or tears (see photos). Again-the prints themselves are all original, beautiful and in wonderful condition, free from any water spots, tears, creases or any damage whatsoever. They are truly lovely! Each print (not including mat) measures 10.25 x 11.5 inches; and 13.25 x 15 inches including mat. The portfolio/case measures 13.75 x 15.5 inches. The portfolio table of contents describes the prints as follows. Kyoto had been the capital of Japan and Mikados’ seats for more than twelve long centuries and, naturally enough, she is rich in colourful and sometimes even sad histories, legends, traditions and romances. To the students of the history of Japan, Kyoto is indeed a place of extreme interests and fascinations. “TWELVE MONTHS OF KYOTO” represents the ancient capital’s twelve well known places, the seasonal beauties of which are so characteristically famous. January: Snow scene at Byodoin Temple at Uji. February: The annual festival of the Fushimi Inari. March: Plum blossoms at the Kitano Shrine. April: Arashiyama Park, a famous scenic resort. May: The pagoda of Yasaka near Gion. June: Rainy scene of the “Sen-ke, ” Japanese tea ceremony founder’s house. July: Gorgeous procession of “Yama-hoko” or the floats at the Gion Festival. August: The Bonfire festival of the Daimonji Hill viewed from the Sanjo Bridge. September: The old Imperial Palace. October: The full-moon night at the gate of the Chionin Monastery. November The Willow tree at the gate of the Shimabara. December Snow scene at the Golden Pavillion. Engraved and Printed by UCHIDA WOODBLOCK PRINTING CO. Yoshitoshi Tsukioka, 12 Months, Japanese Woodblock Print Set 12 Prints Total

This is an original complete set of the 12 Months of the year. I will try to describe accurately! 1′Lady of January -The woodblock has 2 complete tears at the top. The tears measure approx. 1″ by 3/4″, and 1″ x 1″. The left and right corners. I can match them up near perfectly. There are 2 other small tears on the top border of the print. That is, not on the print. The border has 4 or 5 small tears and a large part of 2 labels is missing. It is about gone with nothing written remaining. She is wearing a green kimono. 2′Lady of February Almost all of 2 labels missing on the lower left hand margin. She is wearing a purple kimono. 3′Lady of March-Very nice condition with just the bare remnants of labels on right hand lower border. She is wearing a blue kimono. 4Lady of April-Beautiful condition of print. One tiny round spot where the blue color is missing in the middle of the kimono. Very little remnants of label on right lower border. About 5 little border tears on right side of border 5Lady of May-Very nice condition! Just remnants of the label near bottom right side. 6Lady of June-Diagonal streak from left top to right hand side several inchs down the side, The streak is gray like dust Just guessing! A few little dirt or dust spots here and there from dust. Several pinpricks on the margin. 7Lady of July-2 Tears-one on left side and one on right side. Similar to January but much smaller tears. Small tears of a label. 8Lady of August-Nice condition. 9Lady of September-A flat wrinkle near the right hand top corner. The backing has quite a few tears on the lower half. Not on the print. On the right corner of the print 1 1/4″ by 1″ tear on print. On right hand top corner a narrow cut measuring 1 1/2 long. 10Lady of October-One small tear on the upper left corner. About 3/4 curved to straight tear. Faint label edges remaining. 11 Lady of November-Nice condition. 12Print in nice condition. Border has some tears. I took another set of photos as someone requested that the backs be exhibted. Please ask questions now as I can’t always answer all the questions at the end. TODAY’S PHOTOS: January torn off top. Top will match up nicely with the small pcs that are still there. March & April nice! May- Small dust streak on top of backing.. June-Light dust streak on upper left side on a diagonal going down about 5 in length. July-Print is seperate from backing. Tiny piece that matchs up on left side and small piece remaining on backing that matchs up also. September- Left hand top corner is loose but just came off. However the backing paper has multiple small tears on the sides. October has the prettiest leaves. Small tear on left side but does not tear off. Just about 3/4 in from left top side. November is in good condition! December is in fine shape also with the exception of the backing has a few tears on the left hand sides. Thank you for your patience!
