JAPANESE WOODBLOCK Print KAWASE HASUI This Genuine Japanese Woodblock Print by Kawase Hasui shows a scene of a Full Moon over the Lake. This Example displays the artists red seal in the bottom right of the scene and is Hand Printed from the Original Hand Carved Woodblocks by the Famous Watanabe Woodblock Printing Company in Japan. It is in Excellent Condition, Has Never Been Framed, Displays Gorgeous Colours and Light and Measures 16cm x 10.7cm (6.3inches x 4.2inches). KAWASE HASUI lived from 1883 until 1957. He is Most Highly Regarded for the Exquisite Colour, Amazing Perspective and Inspiring Ambiance of his wide Range of Landscape Woodblocks. During his Life he Created Over 600 Different Woodblock Scenes and he is Recognised as one of Most Prolific and Most Talented of Shin Hanga Artists from the Early 20th Century. It is no wonder that a Year Prior to his Death he was Honored with the Title of a Living National Treasure. Most of his woodblocks were published by Watanabe but he also had some of his work published by other companies including by Isetatsu, Bijutsusha, Kawaguchi and Sakai, Tokyo Shobido and Doi Teiichi. This is a stunning example of Hasui Kawase Japanese woodblock print depicting “Shirakawa Castle Ruins, Cherry Blossoms”. Title “Shirakawa Castle Ruins, Cherry Blossoms”. Date 1946, 1946-57, lifetime printing. There is a 6mm black publishers seal on bottom righthand corner of print. Print size measures approx 15 1/2″ x 10 1/2″. No tears creases or fading, clean backside and front. It has since been removed. It was attached at two mounting points on the back, top side of print. When removed some of the paper jacket was torn and is still attached to print. I have attached 2 photographs of the print with torn pieces of the jacket still attached. These could be removed but I chose to leave them as to not damage the print. To clarify there is no damage to the print itself, just has pieces of jacket still attached. There are two drying pinholes. Other than that this print is Flawless. This print has been stored in climate controlled environment with no exposure to light. As you can see, the paper on this print has very little, if any, signs of yellowing. Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have.
