Ohara Koson (Kanazawa 1877 Tokyo 1945) was a Japanese painter and print designer, part of the shin-hanga (new prints) movement. He produced several woodblock triptychs illustrating episodes of the Russo-Japanese War, but most of his work was prints of animals (kach-ga). Among these are several charming images of domestic cats, often at a mischievous moment, as here. In the bottom left margin is the Kawaguchi Seal D, and in the bottom right margin is the Kawaguchi Seal C, indicating that the print dates from 1931 to the 1940s.
