Size: 15 1/4 x 8 -1/4. Early Sakai/Kawaguchi Edition, with red numbered stamp on reverse. Hasui’s collaboration with publishers other than Watanabe such as Sakai and Kawaguchi occured from 1929 to 1932. It has often been speculated that the principal reason for Hasui’s association with other publishers seem to have been economic. VERY LARGE FIRST LIMITED EDITION JAPANESE WOODBLOCK PRINT ONE DAY OF A KITTEN By Gashu Fukami FIRST LIMITED EDITION Signed, Dated 2001 and Numbered 2 of only 35 ever created all in pencil by the Artist. ABOUT THE ARTIST: GASHU FUKAMI was Born in 1953 at Kumaoto, Japan and completed his education at Doshisya University in Kyoto in 1975. He then studied Woodblock Print making under Takeji Asano until 1977 and decided take a three years arts course at the Kaji Aso studio in Boston. The first showing of his work was held at a solo Exhibition at the Heian Gallery in Kyoto in 1983 where his woodblock prints were extremely well received. In 1990 a showing at Yamashita Gallery in Nagasaki was also very successful. Galleries in the USA were eager for his work so his next exhibition in Japan did not take place until 2001 where another solo show was held at ZokyuDo in Kyoto. Since that time he has had his artworks exhibited at the prestigious Hankyu Department Store in Osaka (2002), the Buffte Five Gallery in Wakayama (2004) , a successful exhibition in New York (2010) and most recently another exhibition in Yamashita Gallery (2012) as well as the highly regarded Daimaru Department Store in Kukuoka (2013). His unique artistic style and fabulous use of colour and form have marked him as one of the leaders among modern woodblock artists. The Pictures are an Important Part of the Description. Special Notes: Artist pencil initialed and signed in English at bottom left, titled. And dated (1958.7). This very interesting Amano Woodblock print is in excellent condition i. Clear and clean image, strong and bright paper, vivid colors, no bend, no tear, and slight but even age toning. Ample photos [front, back, and details] in high resolution are provided for your convenience of identification and judging its excellent quality independently. Flaws to note: there is a tiny water stain spot at top right in the margin (no affecting image) as shown by the detailed photos. 1929 was a highly skilled and well known Japanese Sosaku (generally self-cut and self-printed especially early in his career, such as the current print) artist (see the cited reference below for details) who started to issue woodblock prints in the 1950s. This current print was quite rare and was one his better ones (in terms of creativity etc). Please note the modest asking price.
