Before purchasing our item, please read and understand our business policy and business approach below. We collect and sell valuable items which we confidently recommend at fair prices. One exception to it would be when customers take items without written statements of guarantee to publically qualified appraisal authorities and when they are clarified as forgeries by them (not based on customers’ own opinions or by third parties they choose). Thank you very much for your kind understanding. The young Junichiro grew up in Aomori City together with Munakata Shiko. Munakata, who should late become the “Japanese Picasso”, might have been the one who had inflamed the enthusiasm of the young Sekino for drawing and painting. From an early age on Sekino studied printmaking and oil painting. In 1936 he even won a prize at Bunten for an etching. Bunten was part of the official government controlled art scene with juries who decided on the admission of artworks. Being accepted to these official exhibitions, was quite some success. And winning a prize was an even more remarkable achievement by the young artist. In 1939 Sekino moved to Tokyo. He met and studied under Onchi Koshiro, the great mentor of the sosaku hanga art movement. During his art training Sekino had learned both, the Japanese woodblock method and Western techniques like etching. Although he had attended art training, Sekino was basically self-taught. His great paragons were the old Japanese and European masters – Sharaku, Hiroshige and Toulouse Lautrec, Rembrandt and especially Albrecht Dürer. Material = Paper(glass in frame) Condition= Normal. Rare GOYO Japanese ShinHanga commemorative woodblock BEAUTY IN LONG UNDERGARMENT

Rare GOYO Japanese ShinHanga commemorative woodblock BEAUTY IN LONG UNDERGARMENT

Very rare Commemorative print of a Hashiguchi Goyo Masterwork. The original blocks for his works were destroyed in the great earthquake of 1923. In the mid-late 20. Century his heirs gave two of Japans finest woodblock printers, Tanseisha and Yuyudo, permission to publish very small limited commemorative editions, perhaps as few as 200 each, This very elegant and lovely print is a work from Yuyudos commemorative edition. Instead of following in the footsteps of the earlier ukiyo-e artists who most often chose their models from the famous courtesans of their time, Goyo preferred of paint the geishas, waitress and maids of his era. Portrait of a young woman dressing after her bath. She has just put on a cotton kimono. There is delicate embossing in the kimono. A shimmering silver mica background beautifully sets off her image while the narrow format accentuates her slender figure. This lovely print would be a wonderful choice for the collector and the interior decorator. It would be striking displayed on your home or office wall. This stunning print would be a superb choice for any collector. It was made from meticulously recarved wooden blocks using exactly the same technique and with the same excellent detail and rich color as the original. Later edition prints like this make an exciting addition to your collection and are a wonderful way to decorate at a small fraction of the staggering cost of a first edition print. Matted and framed, this print would make a stunning presentation by itself or as an impressive addition to an arrangement with other prints. It is one you will be proud to display in your home or office and is bound to become a cherished family heirloom. Goyos masterworks are in the collections of many of the worlds great museums.
