Toshi Yoshida Friendly Garden Woodblock Prints – All 3!!! Pine, Bamboo And Plum trees of the Friendly Garden, in beautiful, still in the original frames and matting! These have been in the family for many years and sadly its time for them to come to a new home where they can be displayed and enjoyed! There are in overall wonderful condition, however there a a few light scratches on the acrylic that covers the woodblock, and also some scratches on the wooden frames, all due to being moved and stored around the house over the years, and can be seen in the photos the Plum woodblock print has some tearing of the backing paper of the frame, which can be seen in the photos. These deserve to be enjoyed by someone passionate about Japanese Woodblock, and I can stand to see them not being hung up and enjoyed!! Beautiful, large format triptych depicting a garden with the “Three Friends of Winter, ” pine, bamboo, and plum. The trio of trees symbolizes steadfastness, perseverance, and resilience. At left, a tall pine towers over the garden pond, with stone slabs forming a bridge across the water below. In the center, a cluster of bamboo lines the walkway in from of a house. At right, a plum tree is covered with beautiful pink blossoms and buds, with a few birds perched on the branches. The pond is surrounded with shrubs and trees, with a row of evergreens shaded in blue and snow-capped mountains in the distance. A lovely design, commissioned by the Franklin Mint in 1980 and printed in Toshi Yoshida’s studio in Japan. The only triptych ever created by Toshi Yoshida, this beautiful image is rarely seen on the market and would make an impressive framed presentation. Signed – Toshi Yoshida in kanji in pencil in bottom margin of each panel. Artist – Toshi Yoshida (1911 – 1995). Image Size – Each image 19 5/8″ x 9 3/4″ + margins as shown. This is a fabulous woodblock print and measures approx. 20 X 15 framed and 14 X 9 1/2 viewable area of the print. Please refer to pictures as they are consider part of the description. A little about the artist as found online. Fumio Fujita – One of Japan’s most well-known contemporary sosaku hanga artists, Fumio Fujita studied at the Musashino College of Fine Arts and began creating woodblock prints in 1963. His subjects are nature based, and he is best known for his many images of trees, especially birch trees – a signature Fujita image. He simplifies and reduces forms to their elements, bordering on abstract, with an emphasis on pattern and texture. Fujitas prints are all pencil signed and numbered, limited editions. His works have been included in the prestigious Collage Women’s Association of Japan (CWAJ) exhibitions several times. Fujitas works are becoming increasing collectable, especially some of his earlier designs. His lovely prints would make a wonderful addition to any modern woodblock collection. Pair of beautiful Japanese woodblock prints for your home or office. And printing from all around the world. His style is very Westernized, and his attention to detail is exceptional. These two prints, are part of a trio called the The Friendly Garden which highlights the beautiful tree’s commonly found in Japanese landscapes, and in these prints we have the Pine Tree, and the Bamboo (the 3rd print, The Plum Tree is missing and not included). These are in excellent condition and had been re-framed and matted at some point in the past, placing them in gold metallic frames with plexiglass and blue-gray mats. It is not known if the plexiglass has UV protection or not, but the prints seem to have retained most of their original colors. No damage to the prints, or mats or frames (other than minor wear and tear which is otherwise not noteworthy) and measure aprox. 25.5″ tall and 15″ wide (framed). Thank you for your interest!
