In the Meiji era ca. 1890 many were reprinted, usually known as Akashi reprints, after the town at which they were produced. Recent research into these reprints has divided them into A, B, C & D categories in descending order of quality, A being the finest and comparable in quality to the originals. The present example is an A class print. Many of the less fine categories have been simplified for reasons of economy, e.
