This is a lovely antique original print by Utagawa Kunisada, also known as Toyokuni III Signed, dated and stamped on lower left and lower centeal. Soga monogatari keshozaka no kazari. It is the left part of a triptych and this panel is a portrait of. Framed and matted under glass in a fine antique gilt wood frame. Utagawa Kunisada (1786 – 12 January 1865), also known as Utagawa Toyokuni III, (Sandai Utagawa Toyokuni), was a Japanese ukiyo-e artist. He is considered the most popular, prolific and commercially successful designer of ukiyo-e woodblock prints in 19th-century Japan. In his own time, his reputation far exceeded that of his contemporaries, Hokusai, Hiroshige and Kuniyoshi. Bright colors, some minor losses, near horse hoof on the lower left as well as old restoration on lower right. Framed and matted under glass. Frame is fine antique gilt wood and is in good condition, with craquelure and losses and a nice aged patina. Measurements: frame: 16 3/4 x 13 x 1 inches, woodblock: 12 3/4 x 9 inches. Antique UTAGAWA KUNIYOSHI Japanese Woodblock Tametomo Women Picking Fruit c1850. Original Antique UTAGAWA KUNIYOSHI Japanese Woodblock Part of triptych. Tametomo in his island kingdom, seated on a rock, watching native women picking fruit and diving for awabi (abalone). This is a lovely and very rare antique original print by Utagawa Kuniyoshi women picking fruit by the sea. It is right sheet from triptych and comes with a stamped and hand written Certificate from Sekai. Please note that the last photo is for reference only, source: Kuniyoshi Project, 2024. Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1798- 1861) was one of the last great masters of the Japanese ukiyo-e style of woodblock prints and painting. He was a member of the Utagawa school. The range of Kuniyoshi’s subjects included many genres: landscapes, women, Kabuki actors, cats, and mythical animals. He is known for depictions of the battles of legendary samurai heroes. His artwork incorporated aspects of Western representation in landscape painting and caricature. Condition: Very good condition. Colors are fresh, mild fading and rubbing commensurate with age and use. Lightly taped to matting (easily removable). Framed under glass with black lacquer frame. Offered for sale is a beautiful set of two antique woodblock prints by Ogata Korin. Each print depicts a group of people. The prints are nicely matted and framed in period bamboo style frames. Dimensions: 19.75 inches long and 11 1/8 inches wide overall. The sight is 13.75 inches by 5.5 inches. Markings: Please see the photos for the signatures. Condition: The prints appear to be in great condition. There is some cloudiness to what appears to the underside of the glass. If you hold them just right, you can see this. We didn’t want to unseal the frame to wipe the glass underneath. There is some wear to the paint on the wooden frames as would be expected from items of this age. Please see the photos for details. Tomoe’s mastery of the quiet, soft rainfall after a spring shower when the cherry blossoms were in bloom, and the wet, heavy tones of the concrete, were his specialties.
