He was a student and adopted son of Tsukioka Yoshitoshi, and also studied withOgata Gekk? . Gyo sometimes painted other subjects, for most of his career he made pictures of Japanesenoh theatre, either as large-scale paintings or colored woodblock prints. Some sets, such as N? Gaku zue, have been preserved as albums in their original bindings, including accordion-style bindings known as orihon, while other sets such as N? Ga taikan, were issued in sewn bindings known as yamato toji. Although most bound sets belong to institutional collections, individual prints by K? One print of “Yousou Kafu” (Western floral illustrations). Western flora and fauna paintings by. Year of publication: 1931. Print Size 42.5×28.5cm(16.7×11.2 inch). There are light stains on the print and some peeling marks on the reverse. He studied Japanese painting under Takeuchi Seiho and Western painting under Asai Chu. While winning numerous awards as a Japanese-style painter He innovated Japanese painting by adopting Western techniques. He also taught at art schools and worked as an art educator. Rakuzan was born in Kyoto. When he was young, he studied under Takeuchi Seiho, a pioneer of modern Japanese painting and a representative painter of Kyoto painting. The woodblock prints of Rakuzan have been reprinted using the same woodblock prints in recent years, but this print is a valuable first edition. This item is not new.
