DSC Fine and Decorative Art. Japanese Woodblock Print Lapwing Branch Ohara Koson. The print depicts a lapwing perched on a tree stump, next to a body of water. Halfway down, on the right side of the print, the signature and seal of Ohara Koson can be seen. He was of the Shin-Hanga or New Prints movement, which revived the Japanese traditions of collaboration between, artist, carver, printer and publisher. It came about as an alternative to the creative prints movement, which held that the artist should carve, print and publish their own works. He later became affiliated to the eminent publisher Watanabe Shzabur, helping to sell his works across the world, particularly in The West, where they proved highly influential with the European Impressionists.
