This is a very rare and exclusive item, in very good condition, containing prints by Hiroshige Utagawa. The title of the album is “The Fifty-Three stations of the Tokaido, ” and details the artists’ first travel along the Tokaido road linking Edo and Kyoto in 1832. The work enjoyed great popularity in its time, and is considered a landmark in ukiyo-e. Hiroshige’s work came to have a marked influence on Western painting towards the close of the 19th century as a part of the trend in Japonism. Western artists closely studied Hiroshige’s compositions, and some, such as van Gogh, painted copies of Hiroshige’s prints. International Buyers – Please Note. The images are printed back to back. Benkei Fighting the Ghost of Taira Tomomori. By Utagawa Yoshitsuya (1822 – 1866). February 22, 1822 August 2, 1866, also known as Kko Yoshitsuya and as Ichieisai Yoshitsuya , was a Japanese designer of ukiyo-e. Yoshitsuya was a student of Utagawa Kuniyoshi. And, like his teacher, is best known for his woodblock prints. Yoshitsuya also produced many advertisements and designs for tattoos. Print Size : OBAN Large size. About 14 x 9.75.
