NO FRAME OR MATTING INCLUDED. This sale is for the wood block print and the cardboard backing to which it has been pasted. This piece came from an estate of an art lover. This was matted and framed, but I have removed all that to investigate and photograph the print. It is a shame, but it has been pasted to cardboard which is what a lot of folks did back in the day. There is some crinkling and bubbles due to this procedure but the print is in otherwise wonderful condition and still retains its beautiful pastel shades. It is pencil signed and titled. Wikipedia: Hiroshi Yoshida (1876 1950) was a 20th-century Japanese painter and woodblock printmaker. He is regarded as one of the greatest artists of the shin-hanga style, and is noted especially for his excellent landscape prints. Yoshida travelled widely, and was particularly known for his images of non-Japanese subjects done in traditional Japanese woodblock style, including the Taj Mahal, the Swiss Alps, the Grand Canyon, and other National Parks in the United States. It does have a slightly musty smell from age. From other copies that I have seen, it seems to be still colorful. The print’s outer measurements are: 15 5/8″ L x 10 1/2″ H. The visual colored portion 14 5/8″ L x 9 5/8″ H. Please ask all questions to help authenticate this piece to your satisfaction. Our elves do their best to describe the COLORS they see, given the age of their eyes, and the technical digitization tools at their disposal. HOWEVER, even color is subjective. Woodblock is titled “Evening in Nara”. Has the name of the print and artist signature on the lower edge. Also marked on the side edge. Lifetime edition and was mounted on a piece of thick stock cardboard. Could possible be removed. Has some glue residue in the borders. Overall condition is very nice for its age. Has no creases, no tears, no folds, color is very nice and no foxing. 10 11/16″ by 15 7/8″. Rare woodblock print and is a must for any collector. Found safely stored away at a recent 80 year estate.
