SHINSEN GOSYODOKI ONHINAGATA (lit Newly selected Gosyodoki collection) Vol. 3 (from complete in four volumes) 40 pages of impressive fine woodcut art album including approximately 50 kimono patterns. Although there is a slight foxing on several pages, excellent state of preservation without insect damage or other defects. As for this book, there is no trace that was usage almost. Gosyodoki is a Kind of the pattern of kimono wore by a high-ranking court ladies in the Tokugawa period of Japan such as Ooku. The characteristic of this design is to precisely depict the flowering plants of the four seasons, and to place things that appear in Japan Dynasty literature and Noh, such as the Tale of Genji. According to the book in the Edo era, court ladies guessed and enjoyed the particular story of each kimono pattern related to. Initial edition of Unsodo version with original cover and title slip. A small hole due to papermaking-defect in the margin of one page (Scan 6, upper right). No insect damage, excellent state of preservation above standard overall. Although in this work seems to Bairei is attempting to thoroughly express the realism by suppressing individuality, his outstanding art is found in the excellent composition. The caption with each image explains the name of the rock-paint used for drawing and the drawing technique, separately for petals, leaves, and stems. A masterpiece beyond the mere art book by Bairei, who was also a best educator.
