Formal Name: Nishijinnorimono-Shinzuan vol. Painter: Kaigai Tennen, Kamisaka Sekka Hasegawa Jun etc. Year of publication: 1897. Contents: 10 pages of woodcut color illustrations. Size: 23.6×16cm(9.3×6.3 inch). Condition: Cover has light foxing, some staining, corners lightly creased and slightly rubbed, illustrated margins lightly foxed, corners lightly creased. As the title suggests, the book is a kimono design proposal for the Kyoto kimono industry, represented by Nisijin. These books were later taken over by Unsodo and others, but the publisher of this book is Bunkyudo, a long-established Kyoto bookshop older than Unsodo. The artists who wrote the books were not professional designers or art students, but professional Japanese painters. This book is characteristic of a time when Kyoto’s design industry was still in transition. The editors and artists differ slightly from the early “Shinzuan” series, which seems to have been relaunched as “Gonikai Shinzuan”. This item is not new.
