Snow at Surugacho – Rare Greeting/Gift print. Kiyochicka is considered by many to be the last important ukiyo-e master and the first truly noteworthy print artist of modern Japan. Kiyochika studied western-style painting and his style combines a western depiction of light and shade while using contemporary subjects such as brick buildings and street cars, and reflects the rapid modernization of Japan during the Meiji era. His art is a prime example of the transition from Edo era ukiyo-e to Meiji woodblock prints. This print is from the mid-20th century (Showa period) and is in excellent condition. Printed on washi paper and mounted by top edge to the backing panel. Rare to find in reprint. Nice color and detail as shown.
