First edition pre-war Doi Teiichi printing by Matsushita. This is an amazing piece for it’s age despite the condition issues. Stored on acid free paper for 20 years. Packaged in acid-free paper with flat cardboard envelope inside padded cardboard box (please specify if other method is preferred). This is a fantastic and large original woodblock prints by listed susumu yamaguchi. It is in very good condition taken out of its original frame. It is signed 80 to the bottom left margin and is from Limited edition 120 out of 150. It bears a mark in the print to the lower left corner as well, and artists stamp to the lower right margin as pictured. The image measures 22 1/4 x 17 1/8, with the margins measures 18 1/2 x 23 1/2. The top margin is in a even, and there is very slight toning to top margin, I tried to picture. Otherwise it is in very very good condition. 1897 Born in Ina, Nagano prefecture in 1897. 1912 At the age of 15 he made his first attempt in woodblock printing using. His father’s worn out wooden clogs as the blocks. 1923 His work was first exhibited in the 5th Exhibition of the Sosaku-hanga. His mountain prints have established reputation for their dynamism and. As for the theme’mountain’, Azechi and Maeda can perhaps. Compete with him, while as for’soaked-wet printing’ , the printing tech. Nique of his own devising, had influence even upon Onchi Koshiro. Flotilla on the River. Unknown Ukiyo-e artist, possibly Utagawa Hiroshige. Century – Meiji Period. Ink on Washi Paper. A very intriguing Japanese Ukiyo-e Woodblock Oban print with a rare flotilla scene by who we believe to be Utagawa Hiroshige, considered the last great master of the Ukiyo-e tradition. We are not completely sure of this however as the work seems to be without a signature and all the text is in very old Japanese characters which we have not been able to translate. The scene features a number of traditional Japanese water taxis and boats on a river transporting both passengers and goods. Published by Tsuta-Kichi this is a genuine original 19. In very good overall condition. Clean with only light wear commensurate with age and adding to authenticity. The print has been expertly preserved, colours are all clear and vivid. To the middle of the print there is what seems to be a medium sized stain, please check item photos. No creases or folds to the paper whatsoever. The top right corner has some loss and there are four small pinholes to the bottom portion of the print edge. The top margin has been glued to backing paper, this can be easily detached however we recommend leaving the print with the paper for added protection. Please take our condition report as a guide and refer to the photos for your own judgement. 23.5cm (9.5) x 35.5cm (14). Including the backing paper: 31cm (12) x 40.5cm (16). Musashi, Moon over the Sumida River, Lady Hanjo, No. Toyohara Chikanobu (1838 – 1912). Published on 10/12/1884 – Meiji Period. A charming Japanese Ukiyo-e Woodblock Oban print by leading artist of the Meiji period Toyohara Chikanobu. (better known as Ysh Chikanobu and Hashimoto Naoyoshi). The prints subject is based on an old noh play, in which a courtesan woman called Hanago from Mino Province, had fallen in love with a customer. A Samurai named Yoshida no Shosho and exchanged fans before his departure. Without a response Hanago went mad, wandering the streets and riverbanks of Edo. Here two young boys laugh and point at the beauty as she aimlessly walks opposite a river in Musashi. An old province of Japan under moonlight. The inset above shows Yoshida no Shosho refusing to see Hanagos messenger. Part of the Snow, Moon, Flowers Setsugekka. We have a number of other prints up for sale from the same series.
