Paul Jacoulet 1950 Japanese Woodblock Print Signed. Le Mandarin Aux Lunettes
Author: adminJul 12
These both belonged to my grandmother and the other one has an envelope taped to the back with a photo inside. It is an original black and white photo of the artist with 2 of her friends. These make a beautiful set. These were professionally framed sometime in the late 60s or early 70s I would guess as that is the time period that they lived in Lexington, KY. The frames are sealed on the back so I did not want to open it for pictures. Title: Le Mandarin Aux Lunettes. Dimensions: 18.5×14 in. Professionally framed with double matboard and gold/black bamboo look frame. Condition: Excellent color and impression. Very vivid with no fading whatsoever. Signature & Seals: pencil signed with red mandarin duck seal and watermark in paper reading “JP” and “Jacoulet” in kanji. Artist Name: Paul JACOULET 1896? Medium:original woodblock print. Kaoru Kawano Mandarin Ducks 1960s Pencil Signed Japanese Color Woodblock
Author: adminNov 8
Kaoru Kawano studied at Kawabata art school in 1934. He exhibited at the Japan Print Society as early as 1944 but his career was interrupted by the war (he was a POW in Siberia). He resumed his career following the war, participating in numerous Japanese and international exhibitions. Noted for his semi-abstract images of women and children, Kawano was one of the few Japanese printmakers to design, carve, and publish his own prints. This print of swimming ducks is signed in pencil and bears Kawano’s seal lower right. The print measures 9 1/4″ x 14 7/8″ (image size). It is in good condition with mat burn in the margins and some toning of the paper. Framed and matted as shown. Please see my other auctions for more fine paintings and prints.
