Kawanabe Kyosai (1831 – 1889). Kawanabe Kyoshi (1831 – 1889) Okitsu, from. Scenes of Famous Places along the Tôkaidô Road. Woodblock 20 1/4 x 15 1/2 inches (frame) 14 1/16 x 9 5/16 inches (full sheet) 1860′s. Up for sale is a gorgeous woodblock print by the talented 19th-century Japanese printmaker Kawanabe Kyosai entitled Okitsu, from. This early print dates to 1860′s and dark clouds overhead pouting rain down apon the figues along the coast below. The condition of this print is very good with minimally trimmed margins, some fading to colors and light soiling. And had remained stored unframed until recently. Resting in its attractive blue wood frame with triple matting this print is ready to be hung and enjoyed! This is a Japanese woodblock print. It is called Blue Bird on Autumn Branch. My research found that it is by the daughter of Kawanabe Kyosai or Gyosai. Also called Shojo Kyosai. I don’t know if that is the Daughter’s name. But my research found that the daughter’s work is so similar to her father’s that her work is often listed as his. Kyosai Kawanabe Hell courtesan Jigoku dayu. He was born 1831 died 1889. He learned ascetic practice from Kuniyoshi Utagawa and Towa Maemura.
