Woodblock Print : Utagawa Kunisada Toyokuni III : Kabuki Actor Onoe Kikugoro IV. Toyokuni III : Kabuki Actor Onoe Kikugoro IV. This is a lovely antique original print by Utagawa Kunisada, also known as Toyokuni III of a man, actor Onoe Kikugoro IV. Framed and matted under glass in a curved wood brown frame. Utagawa Kunisada (1786 – 12 January 1865), also known as Utagawa Toyokuni III, (Sandai Utagawa Toyokuni), was a Japanese ukiyo-e artist. He is considered the most popular, prolific and commercially successful designer of ukiyo-e woodblock prints in 19th-century Japan. In his own time, his reputation far exceeded that of his contemporaries, Hokusai, Hiroshige and Kuniyoshi. Condition: Good condition, some fading and minor stains and creases. Examined out of the frame. Framed and matted under glass. Frame is in good condition. Measurements: Framed: 20 3/4 x 16 1/4 x 1 inches; Print: 14 x 10 inches. Weight: 4 lbs 2 oz. Thank you for looking. There is a slight insect bite after on the surface. A mount is attached on the reverse side. A Kabuki scene is depicted. The play is Utou-Yasutaka chuygi-den. In this scene, a retainer who committed suicide to stop a misbehaving lord appears to his family as a ghost.
