There is no entry with publication information, however, several maps of the same type were published by the Ministry of Education in 1875, and as the maps are similar in content and design, this map is considered to be one of them. Artist pencil signed at margin in bottom right. This original Elizabeth Keith woodblock print is in very good e. Clean image, original nice wide margins, and slight but even age toning. Description: Elizabeth Keith (1887 -1956) was well-known Scotch Japanese woodblock artist. Her sensitively depicted portraits of natives and landscapes of East Asia in woodblock print form were particular favors of many collectors. This current print was published by Watanabe in around 1935. The title of the print most likely was derived from Pearl Bucks novel of the same titled published in 1931. It depicted a suburban view of Peking (Beijing) during the early 1930s with a figure working on a field with a temple in this background.
