It depicts the hectic yet lively backstage of Kabuki. Toyokuni III was a student of Toyokuni, who called himself Kunisada, but took the name Toyokuni II in Tempo 15. In reality, he was Toyokuni III. Toyokuni III was a pupil of Toyokuni and was named Kunisada, but in 1882 he assumed the name Toyokuni II.
