Benkei Fighting the Ghost of Taira Tomomori. By Utagawa Yoshitsuya (1822 – 1866). February 22, 1822 August 2, 1866, also known as Kko Yoshitsuya and as Ichieisai Yoshitsuya , was a Japanese designer of ukiyo-e. Yoshitsuya was a student of Utagawa Kuniyoshi. And, like his teacher, is best known for his woodblock prints. Yoshitsuya also produced many advertisements and designs for tattoos. Print Size : OBAN Large size. About 14 x 9.75. Rare Original Japanese Woodblock Oban Giga Print Triptych – Yoshiiku – 1860 -Niskiki-e Giga (Drawn in Fun) Print -Title: Kane kinchaku ojime no zendama (Virtuous imps vying for the purse strings of a Nouveau-riche). Upper class beauties and Samurai at leisure, surrounded by evil spirits. The humanoid characters, dressed only in their underwear, incite violence and immorality, influencing the people around them. The people oblivious to their presence as the spirits climb on them, tugging at their sleeves and arms or sitting on their shoulders. Signed: Ikkeisai Yoshiiku giga (Drawn in fun); Publisher: Hirookaya Kôsuke; Size: 14 in. X 28 1/4 in. Condition: Excellent color and detail, excellent bleedthrough; three panels, not attached; slight paper remnants on each panel reverse, small holes and thinning at edges, repaired and blend well; light soil, creasing, all would be commensurate with age. RARE FIRST EDITION 1924 JAPANESE WOODBLOCK PRINT KAWASE HASUI AUTUMN RAINBOW AT HATTA KAGA. FROM HIS SOUVENIRS OF TRAVEL SERIES RARE EARLY GENUINE 1924 FIRST EDITION HASUI WOODBLOCK PRINT SIZE: 38.7cm x 26cm (15.2 inches x 10.2 inches) AUTHENTICATION: Watanabe Publishers 6mm Seal which was Only Used between 1918 and 1924 can be seen in the lower left corner of the scene AND the Souvenirs of Travel Seal can be seen in the Left Margin. Shoichiro Watanabe personally authenticated this woodblock print and told me This Second Seal was Only Ever used on First Editions and was not used on all the scenes from each series. See close up picture. SIGNATURE: Hasui with Sui Seal Below. Title and Date in Left Margin. Very Good Condition for Age, Full Margins, Very Minor Wrinkle Line in Bottom Left Corner and Some Light Toning which could be removed by a specialist. ABOUT THE ARTIST : KAWASE HASUI Lived from 1883 until 1957. He is Most Highly Regarded for the Exquisite Colour, Amazing Perspective and Inspiring Ambiance of his Wide Range of Landscape Woodblocks. During his Life he Created Over 600 Different Woodblock Scenes and he is Recognised as one of Most Prolific and Most Talented of Shin Hanga Artists from the Early 20. It is no wonder that a Year Prior to his Death he was Honoured with the Title of a Living National Treasure. This is a large limited edition Japanese woodblock print by Reika Iwami, 1976. The print is signed lower right and numbered 33/50 lower left. It is framed and matted well with foxing evident on the print due to age. No rips or tears! I removed the glass as it was cracked during transit. KIYOSHI NAGAI Original JAPANESE WOODBLOCK PRINT. Limited Edition, signed, numbered. This is a limited edition piece. The print depicts a flat, modern-style image of a simple yellow home, surrounded by large trees, in the Shinano Province of Japan. The print is titled in both English and Japanese, signed, dated, and numbered “252-17″ in pencil by the artist in the lower margin. The imagery is surrounded by a wide white margin and is presented behind glass in a thin black wooden frame. The print’s measures are approximately: 19″ W x 12.5″ H incl. 19.8″ W x 13.4″ H x 0.7 D. Condition: Very Good the. Paper is beginning to discolor slightly on edges; scratching is visible across the frame. Great addition to a serious collection. He studied western painting techniques at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts. He is more widely known under the name Hiroyuki Tajima. Nagai began creating woodblock prints in 1946 and he signed his richly colored abstractions, Tajima, and his more literal works, Nagai. He was a member of the Bijutsu Bunka Kyokai (a group of abstract and surrealist artists) and in 1963 he joined the Japanese Print Association. Nagai took part in the International Tokyo Print Biennale and his works are represented in numerous collections worldwide. You can do it within 14 days , after your item has been received. Dated and signed middle right: “Showa 4″ (1929), followed by the circular artist’s seal reading: “Kotondo”. Embossed title in the lower margin reads “Ame” (Rain). Seal in lower left of joint publishers Sakai and Kawaguchi. Blocks carved by Ito and printed by Komatsu Wasakichi. “Made in Japan”, stamped on the reverse.
