Kaoru Kawano (1916 – 1965). Description : Kawano’s woodblock of a running rooster often referred to as “Charging Rooster”. A stunning Mid-20th century woodblock. Dimensions: Oban sheet size, 16 3/8″ x 11.25″. Circa: mid 20th c. Condition : Condition is excellent, no tears, no foxing, slight creases in the upper right margin and no repairs; full margins. Colors are great; vibrant. Very good registration, fine impression and good bleed-through. This print is on very heavy, handmade paper. This is, in my opinion, a nice print to add to a collection. If the item is not paid for within this time frame, it may be resold. More pictures available on request. It is a genuine vintage Japanese woodblock print. Beautiful Original Joichi Hoshi Woodblock Print. Signed and dated 1978. Outside wood frame measures 16 1/2″ wide by 13 3/4″ high. Internal silver frame is 11 1/2″ wide and 8 7/8″ high. Total depth is roughly 1 1/4. Woodblock behind glass within silver frame is roughly 7 5/8″ wide and 5 1/4″ high. Overall condition of print is excellent with no signs of wear. Frame shows some wear – please see pictures for more details. Backing has original green paper. Price includes very careful packing within the continental US. This listing is for the original 1853 Utagawa Hiroshige Yuki No Nagame (Snow View) Woodblock Print pictured above. The triptch was published by Iseya Kanekichi, 12th month 1853. This sheet is signed Hiroshige hitsu. For a similar impression in the collection of the National Museum in Crakow, Centre of Japanese Art and Technology Manggha Krakow, see Zofia Alber, eds. Hiroshige : an exhibition of woodblock prints to mark the 200th anniversary of the artist’s birth (Krakow: National Museum in Crakow, 1997), no. And the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. This is a rare opportunity to add this woodblock to your collection at a great price. The sheet measures about 14 5/8 inches tall by 10 inches wide. Condition: The print is in good shape for its age. There is some light browning/toning to the paper, particularly along the edges. There is some typical minor creasing towards the top of the print.
