12 Meiji Era Japanese Shunga / Original Art / Antique Woodblock Erotic Prints
Author: adminMar 15
A late 1800′s – very early 1900′s (Late Edo – Meiji era) Japanese shunga erotic woodblock print collection. The color red in these was a popular color used at this time. Part of a personal collection we brought from Kyoto, Japan. Ever displayed, and have been kept in their original protective wrapper that is shown in photos # 2 & 12. There are 12 prints. Each one is numbered by the month, January to December within the red ribbon in the upper corner. This is a complete collection. These are authentic Japanese woodblocks, printed on handmade Japanese washi paper. An added feature to these, is when the paper was made, the reflective soft stone mica, was ground up and added to the paper. This gives the prints a subtle sparkle effect that can be seen when the light hits them at the correct angle. If you look closely, we tried to show this in photos # 9 & 10. Even the protective wrapper has mica added to it. Every color shown was from a different hand carved woodblock. Similar to how silk screening is done. The details in some of these are incredible to imagine the wood carving that was done to produce them. It’s 4 1/2 x 3 3/8 inches (12 x 9.25 cm). This item is in the category “Antiques\Asian Antiques\Japan\Prints”. The seller is “lsjapanstuff” and is located in this country: US. This item can be shipped worldwide.
