Length: 18.5 inches. Height: 14.5 inches. This exquisite woodblock print by Utagawa Hiroshige depicts a bustling scene from the famous Tokaido Road, specifically the Fujisawa Station. Known for his masterful landscapes, Hiroshige captures the essence of Edo-period Japan with vibrant colors and meticulous detail. The print showcases a torii gate in the foreground, leading to a busy village scene with travelers and locals, set against a backdrop of traditional Japanese architecture and lush greenery. History of Woodblock Prints. These prints were popular for their depictions of landscapes, tales of the kabuki theater, and scenes of the everyday life of the Edo period. Hiroshige was a prolific artist of the ukiyo-e genre, celebrated for his series depicting the fifty-three stations of the Tokaido Road, the route between Edo (modern-day Tokyo) and Kyoto. Translation of the Text. The Japanese text on the print reads. (Tokaido Gojusan-tsugi no uchi Fujisawa). Which translates to Fujisawa Station, one of the fifty-three stations of the Tokaido Road.

For sale is a matted & framed 12″ x 16″ Tsuchiya Rakusan woodblock print titled “Grasshopper and Chinese Hibiscus”. Note the age and discoloration in the corners; this is not visible with the matting and frame. This is one sheet from a series of 36 titled ” Koshisei Gasen “. It has the Seal Code “B” of the 36 Series Seal Distributions. Is embossed in the lower margin and is shown in the photos. The print also has the signature. Raku-zan Kou-shi-sei above the Seal Code “B”. The print is matted and has a wood bamboo style frame with a glass cover. The print is 12″ x 16″ and the framed work is 17″ x 23″ and weighs 5 pounds.
