In 1889, he succeeded Kunisada’s name as the third generation and took the name of Kachoro. After 1894, he changed his name to Toyosai. He mainly painted Kaika-e and Yakusha-e (portraits of actors), and his specialty was portraits of Ichikawa Sadanji I. He also painted many genre paintings. He also painted many genre pictures.
