Vintage Ito Sozan 1884 -? Ito Sozan was born in 1884. Between 1919 and 1926 he designed woodblock prints of birds and flowers (kacho-e) for the shin hanga publisher Watanabe Shozaburo. There is no further information regarding his art training and further career after 1926. Original frame and mat. Pencil signed by artist… “Rooster and hen and chicks”… 15.75″ x 11.00″. Diptych of Samurai near the railroad train. Famous scene by Kunisada on sturdy paper with writing on the back that does not affect the print which is really strong impression and vivid colors. Size is 9 x 13.25 each print. The print is in quite good condition. No stains, toning or foxing, some soiling, not perfect. The back has tape residues, maybe toning that doesn’t show up in the print. DEPICTING A PORTRAIT OF KABUKI THEATER ACTOR NAKAMURA TOKIZO III AS YAMANBA NO YAEGIRI, FROM HIS SERIES “NEW VERSION OF FIGURES ON THE STAGE”, c. ONE OF A PAIR OF MATCHED FRAME NATORI SHUNSEN PRINTS WE HAVE CURRENTLY LISTED. 17 7/8″ x 12 13/16″ As Framed. Apparently in excellent original condition, a strong image with good color. I have not examined it outside of the frame but it does not appear to be laid down. Dachshund (B) from the mid-1950s Dachshund Series. Many images below the description. Up for sale is a terrific rare original Kiyoshi Saito Japanese sosaku hanga modern woodblock print, perfect for the dog lover! It is hand signed in white ink in the black variegated background above the dachshund’s rear flank. The artist’s red seal can be found in the vicinity, as well. Great color and no damage visible. The variegated black background has elements that are a maroon purple/red hue when viewed in certain light. The mat shows signs of its age.
