Reika Iwami is a well known Japanese artist and represented in many museums and private collections. According to the web site asianartcollections “Reika Iwami is one of the first female printmakers to achieve the same status and worldwide recognition as male artists”. Her work is known for her use of black and gold and mica and her printing technique accents the wood grain of the block. Her design themes are drawn from water, waves and nature and are abstract and flowing. She brings to life the beauty of nature in her own original interpretation. It is one of my favorite artworks and I hate to part with it. She was born in 1927 and is part of the Japanese sosaku hanga woodblock printing school or creative print movement. This print is signed in pencil, Reika Iwami’73. I did find a similar one titled “Song of the Wave 2″. The design is similar and I believe this print may be. Song of the Wave 1. Comments and Questions are always welcome. 13 wide x 10 high. With Mat: 14 wide x 12 high. Condition: some age toning and slight mat burn (only visible when mat is lifted). Number ID: 35-215-10, 4-1798 written on the bottom print edge. The item “Reika Iwami Japanese Woodblock Print, Song of Wave #1, Signed 20/50 Gold Black” is in sale since Sunday, May 17, 2020.
