1959 Sadao Watanabe The Well In Samaria Momigami Japanese Religous Woodblock /50. For sale is an original rare Sadao Watanabe hand signed Momigami woodblock print. It is hand signed, dated 1959, and #’d 28/50 by the artist in the lower right corner. It’s title “The Well In Samaria” is of a Christian/biblical theme. Momigami is a Japanese paper making method, often described as kneaded paper. They use Konnyaku starch to strengthen Kozo (paper mulberry). It then acquires an appearance of leather which is then crumpled to achieve a high degree of flexibility. It’s an expensive and time consuming process giving the work a vibrant and textured look. The work is in a black frame under glass ready to hang and enjoy. There is a fabric type matte on the exterior followed by a gold color border, then the glass. The print is then attached to an off-white backing. The print is in excellent condition with phenomenal detail. The frame looks good but does have some small nicks and chips. The print is approximately 23 1/2″ x 26 1/2″ and the frame measures 31″ x 35″. About Home of Vintage Treasures. Your item comes from a smoke-free home.
